HOW TO GLITCH JPG IMAGES WITH DATA CORRUPTION

  • COPY AND PASTE CHUNKS IN RANDOM AREAS OF THE CODE
  • REMOVE LARGE AREAS OF THE DATA
  • ADD 'YOUR OWN' CODE INTO THE IMAGES

'Corrupting JPG images often results in interesting patterns due to the corrupt data and the compression algorithms used, as seen enlarged in the example above. Decreasing the quality of the JPG itself, which can be done with image editing software, can sometimes increase the likelihood of generating these artifacts through corruption.

As with any glitch-by-corruption technique, too little has no effect, too much can destroy the file, but just enough results in glorious, glorious corruption.'

"To create the colorful PET image, a computer displays each measurement as a series of tiny dots. The color of each dot shows the intensity of the energy signal. Red indicates the highest intensity—in other words, the area of greatest brain activity."

Mapping Emotions On The Body

"People drew maps of body locations where they feel basic emotions (top row) and more complex ones (bottom row). Hot colors show regions that people say are stimulated during the emotion. Cool colors indicate deactivated areas."

The impact of Colours in our surroudings - advertisment

  • Understanding colors and the emotions they evoke is essential for a sucessful design.
  • Colour is possibly the most powerful element of imagery next to the actual image itself. Colors can evoke different emotions.

write about this photo you took and the ideas behind the colours of blue to repreent the saddness of the public.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

Using photography, I have captured focused areas of specifically painted colour in my environment of the streets and in public spaces. These spray painted surfaces, are for a specific use, whether to inform the builder of an instruction or as a sign of warning to somebody that will be in contact with it. I love the idea of these findings to be put there for a specific purpose but I myself see them as means of art. The use of the bright yelllow on the edges of the escalator steps are put there for the public service. The bright yellow colour catches attention to the public and acts as a colour of warning and saftely to the public. I love this idea of the placement and choice of the colour as being a way to comunicate. I would like to exploare further the use of colour in our public sectors, as I am very interested in the involvement of colour to communicate a messages in everyday life.

Double Poke in the Eye II, Bruce Nauman (1985) @ the TATE

I like that he provokes the viewer and similarly to Barbara Kruger uses words and themes that question and expresses through the use of words, their ideas on life. This is so inspiring to me as I love to deal with deep into conveying my options of ideas on human life through my image making and choice of colours. I would like to explore this, especially within the use of colours in my work for this project.

Bruce used inspirations from the 'environment around him' such as the neon signs found in the likes of local butcher shops and barbers to inform his material use in his work. For the exploration of research for this project I would like to gather inspiration from the materials that I find intriguing in my surrounding environment to inform the materials for sample making and materials to just 'play around with'. I feel that by allowing the materials that I use to be informative to the artwork will enrich my concept and overall outcome.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

I came across this trolly in a shop which I realised had given off a colourful stained effect. I managed to photograph the trolly in contact with the light to give this effect. I love how there is this strong yellowy, copper undertone mixed with the purples, turquioses and pinks of the effect. This copper undertone created the alarming yellows and neon greens that are seen towards the areas of the trolly where the light is less visable.

I also question whether this effect was made from possibly a chemical reaction on the metal of the trolly also rather then just the effect of the light. This makes me think about exploaring chemical reactions to create colours.

PINK FLOYD album art for 'Dark Side of the Moon'

  • Depicts a glass PRISM dispersing light into colour. The design represents three elements: the band's stage lighting, the album lyrics.
  • The spectrum of light continues through to the gatefold.

White light is dispersed by a prism into the colors of the visible spectrum.

PRIMARY RESEARCH - My photos of found surfaces that project light and colour

  • EFFECTS OF LIGHT ON CLEAR SURFACES
  • I looked at my surroundings for fabrics, surfaces and objects that create colour with the effect of light shining through. I realised that the one's that made the best effects where the materials that were semi-transparent with hints of other colours. This was because they managed to project the colour they were including the multi-colours of the light projections.
  • like to use this in my project...

Meaning in COLOUR

Primary Colors: Red, yellow and blue
In traditional color theory (used in paint and pigments), primary colors are the 3 pigment colors that cannot be mixed or formed by any combination of other colors. All other colors are derived from these 3 hues.

Secondary Colors: Green, orange and purple
These are the colors formed by mixing the primary colors.

Tertiary Colors: Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green & yellow-green
These are the colors formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color. That's why the hue is a two word name, such as blue-green, red-violet, and yellow-orange.
